A note about temples

As you know, building temples is the ultimate aim in order for an alliance to win a Crown of the Gods.  There are a couple of other facts about temples that you may like to know.

Some players may become 'Temple Officers' in their alliance, keeping track of shrines, castles, blessings and loyalty.  If your alliance has a Temple Officer, chat with them about this and ask how they determine the priority for each blessed city.

Loyalty requirements to upgrade a temple

A castle can be blessed if it is near a shrine.  The nearer to a shrine and the higher the score of the castle, the more likely it is to be blessed.  There is one other factor that will affect whether an existing temple is blessed again.

Each temple built adds a level (%) of loyalty to the alliance.

The alliance must have a certain level of loyalty to receive a blessing at higher levels.

I need to mention here too, you can't be blessed twice in a row.  Or if you're already upgrading a temple in the city.

Here is the information on temples:

For example:

For an existing temple to be blessed at Level 8, an alliance must have a combined loyalty of 70% to that God.  This may be made up of 70 temples at Level 1, 35 temples at Level 2, 7 temples at Level 7 or any combination to reach the 70% mark.  (Note the resource requirements for each level....  there can be some calculations involved to determine which is most efficient!)

Only then will the Level 8 be eligible for blessing.

Building near Shrines

It takes a LOT of resources to build one level 10 temple (4.6 billion each of wood and stone), and a lot of troops to defend it, not every castle will have its Temple built.

As it takes a lot of time to build to level 10, it is important to try and get your castle Blessed every time.  As I said above, the score of the castle and the distance from the Shrine affect how often the castle will be blessed.

Alliances therefore designate some castles as High Priority or High Level Temple (HLT) and these need to be looked after!!

To make a castle a High Level Temple.

  • It needs hubs near it to supply all the lovely resources (specialised wood/stone hubs with lots of storage and enough carts)

  • It needs to be nearest to the Shrine (ideally) but depending what else is there it might not be

  • It needs to be the highest score castle near the Shrine (nearest 17 Castles).  This might mean a Shrine is surrounded by 15 tiny castles of score 7 point.  (3 for the basilica, 4 for the castle) and two others which are getting built.  That stops the smaller ones getting blessed and ensures blessings can bounce back and forth between the other two.    If you have castle near a designated HLT you may well be asked to '7 point' it.

  • The owner needs to be active (to be able to build up temples as soon as possible, and to make sure the Temple is kept in the alliance.  If a player leaves an alliance any temples they own will be destroyed)

To make enough Temples to have enough Loyalty.

  • Blessed castles will generally be set as low priority: build if full but don't overload.  Probably only be up to Level 3 or 4, but it depends how many there are in the alliance

  • If an alliance is low on a particular faith, then those temples might be set as medium priority.  That means to send all the resources you can there, to get the Temples built and the loyalty higher more speedily.

  • Castles you have near a non-priority shrine you may be able to build as often as you can, and keep the castle troops for raiding.  They'll be a faith Temple, where blessing or not is not super high importance.

  • Once there is enough overall loyalty (and some spare in case any are lost) that God's temples will be set as Do not build.  The resources can be sent to the HLTs.

So in summary...

There are two types of Temple/Shrine set ups.

1.  High Level Temples - focussed with lots of 7 pointers

2.  Build as required to maintain the loyalty

If you want to be sneaky

Build a city in the middle of another alliance's HLTs.  You can then Castle near the end of the game and try to steal the blessing.  Organised alliances will try to surround Shrines as soon as a continent opens, to make sure there is not any space for others.

Be careful, others will be trying to do the same to your alliance too!

Temple bonuses

As well as your own research increasing your power in the game, all members of an alliance also benefit from the number and God of the temples that the alliance hold.   Depending on the level of loyalty your alliance has, you will get a boost of up to 50% on the following attributes.  You can see all of the specific detail for your alliance in the Alliance > Loyalty screen on your game.
